Social-Emotional Challenges
Recent reports indicate that as many as 1 in 5 children are affected by a mental health condition (e.g., anxiety or depression). As such, it is important to recognize and identify children who may be showing initial indications of social-emotional difficulties so as to provide early intervention.
Assessment for social-emotional challenges may occur as part of a comprehensive evaluation for other challenges that children may experience (e.g., LD, ADHD, ASD) or they may be distinct from other difficulties. An evaluation typically entails formal (e.g., questionnaires) and informal (e.g., parent and/or child interview) to determine the nature and extent of social-emotional challenges.
