Giftedness
Giftedness is an educational designation that refers to a child who demonstrates highly developed cognitive and academic abilities. Children who are recognized as gifted are often highly curious, demonstrate a large and mature vocabulary, are creative and imaginative, and have interest in sophisticated topics.
Assessment for giftedness typically entails the completion of measures of cognitive ability and academic achievement, although some educational programs only require the completion of a cognitive assessment measure (e.g., WISC-V, WPPSI-IV, WAIS-IV) for school applications. Assessment plans will be determined based on the needs of the family prior to beginning any formal testing.
Families frequently seek a giftedness assessment for their child when looking to register in either the Calgary Board of Education’s Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program or in Westmount Charter Academy. Our assessment will serve both of these purposes.
